Week 3 Notes, Homework, and Video

NEW NOTES:

NOTE 1:  DROP THE LEASH INSIDE FOR THE CIRCLE PLACE EXERCISES, AND TRY ON LONG PLACE AS WELL.

NOTE 2:  IF YOU HAVE ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE STAY EXERCISES AND DISTRACTIONS, YOU CAN REDUCE THE TIME AND THEN BUILD IT UP AGAIN.

NOTE 3:  INCREASE THE CIRCLE WIDTH FOR CIRCLE SIT STAYS AND CIRCLE PLACE (WITH LEASH DROPPED OR ON LONG LINE).

NOTE 4:  USE ATTENTION TO NAME WITH HEELING AND POSSIBLY SIT (IF YOU ARE LOSING YOUR DOG'S ATTENTION).


Homework Schedule:

Calming Exercises (NOTE:  ROTATE "SIT ON THE DOG" AND "LONG PLACE" ON ALTERNATE DAYS):

  1. (SAME) Sit on the Dog 30 + minutes Goal:  To get your dog to lay down on their own steam in five minutes or under.  



  2. (SAME) Long Place 30 minutes Goal:  Just to get your dog to start to get used to staying on the place.  If your dog manages to step off, you do not need to reset the exercise.  





Obedience Exercises:
  1. (NEWISH) Circle Sit Stays 10 minutes or less Goal: To eventually get four in a row sit stays for 1 minute

  2. (NEWISH) Sit Stays for "Friendly Stranger Greeting

  3. (NEW)  Down Using Leash Pressure Method

  4. (NEW) Recall work to get your dog a little speed and possibly closer without running back NOTE:  NOVA WAS NOT READY AT THE LESSON TO DO THIS, SO WORK WITH HER WITH THIS IN MIND THIS WEEK 

  5. (NEW) Playing with your dog to build engagement

  6. (SAME) Heel  5-10 minutes  Goal:  To get three sessions of 4 patterns (heel and sit) in a row.  NOTE:  I WANT YOU TO GET AT LEAST THREE WELL POSITIONED STEPS IN BEFORE STOPPING FOR THE SIT. 

  7. (SAME) Send to Place 7+minutes Goal:  To get your dog to step on themselves for times in a row for 3 sets.  


  8. (SAME) Circle Place 10 minutes or less Goal:  To eventually get 4 in a row without needing correction for 1 minute.
